Valle, José Cecilio Del

Valle, << VAH yay, >> José Cecilio Del (1777?-1834), was a Central American patriot and statesman. He wrote the Central American Declaration of Independence, which proclaimed freedom from Spain on Sept. 15, 1821. Valle became a leader of Guatemala’s independence movement in 1821. Mexico annexed Guatemala in 1822 and imprisoned Valle briefly. Valle was elected vice president of the Central American Confederation in 1823, but he refused to serve. Valle was born in Honduras, probably on Nov. 22, 1777. He died on March 2, 1834.
