Vendetta

Vendetta is a family feud once common in Italy, especially in Sicily. One family fought another, often savagely, to avenge a personal injury or murder. The victim’s nearest relative had to take revenge on the offender. If the offender could not be punished, vengeance had to be taken on the next of kin. Vendettas were similar to the family feuds that have taken place in many other parts of the world. See also Feud .
