Vermont, University of

Vermont, University of, is a state-supported coeducational school in Burlington, Vermont. Its official name is the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College. It was the first university in the United States to admit women to the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa. The University of Vermont was chartered in 1791. The Vermont Agricultural College was chartered in 1864 and joined with the university in 1865 to form the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College. The university’s athletic teams are called the Catamounts.
