Viña del Mar, << `veen` yuh dehl MAHR >> (pop. 324,836), is one of the largest cities in Chile. It is also the country’s leading seaside resort city. Viña del Mar lies on the Pacific coast, about 4 miles (6 kilometers) north of Valparaíso. Its mild climate, beaches, hotels, nightclubs, and race tracks make it one of the most popular vacation spots in South America. Viña del Mar also has Chile’s only gambling casino. There are several food-processing plants in Viña del Mar, and some oil refineries are nearby.
