Waitaki, << wy TAH kee, >> River is a river in the southeastern part of the South Island of New Zealand. It rises near the eastern slopes of the Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o te Moana and flows about 134 miles (216 kilometers) to its mouth, just south of Glenavy, on the eastern coast. It is the South Island’s longest river and forms part of the border between Canterbury and Otago.
