Wax myrtle is a large, fragrant evergreen shrub or small tree found along the eastern coast of the United States. It grows from southern New Jersey to southern Florida and as far west as Texas. It also is found in the West Indies. The wax myrtle grows up to 35 feet (11 meters) tall and has small, greenish flowers. The 2- to 4-inch (5- to 10-centimeter) leaves have tiny amber to brown dots. The wax myrtle is grown as an ornamental shrub and does best in damp soil.
