West Virginia University is an institution that has its main campus in Morgantown, West Virginia. It is a land-grant university (see Land-grant university). West Virginia University (WVU) was founded in 1867. Its athletic teams are called the Mountaineers. WVU Tech in Beckley and Potomac State College in Keyser are divisions of WVU. West Virginia University at Parkersburg (WVUP) cooperates with WVU to deliver some programs, but WVUP is a separate institution.
