Westcott, Edward Noyes (1846-1898), wrote the novel David Harum, published shortly after his death. The story deals with a shrewd and humorous small-town banker in upstate New York. The novel and dramatic adaptation were extremely popular. Will Rogers starred in a film version of the novel.
Westcott was born on Sept. 27, 1846, in Syracuse, New York, where he became a successful banker. Westcott wrote David Harum while dying of tuberculosis. He died on March 31, 1898.
