Whipbird

Whipbird is any of a group of ground-dwelling birds from Australia. Whipbirds get their name from the whiplike crack at the end of the whistling call of the eastern whipbird. This bird lives in eastern Australia’s rain forests and coastal thickets. It has mainly dark olive green plumage with a black crest and breast. An adult measures about 10 inches (25 centimeters) long. Eastern whipbirds spend much time searching the ground litter for insects. They use fine twigs and roots to make cup-shaped nests in low bushes. Females lay two black-spotted, pale blue eggs.
