Whipple, William (1730-1785), was a New Hampshire signer of the Declaration of Independence. He served as a delegate to the provincial congress of New Hampshire in 1775 and to the Continental Congress from 1776 to 1779. He fought as a brigadier general in the Revolutionary War in America (1775-1783). Whipple served in the state assembly from 1780 to 1784 and as financial receiver for New Hampshire from 1782 to 1784. He was a justice of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire from 1782 until his death on Nov. 28, 1785. Whipple was born on Jan. 14, 1730, in Kittery, Maine. He was a sea captain and successful merchant.
