Wryneck, also called snakebird, is a group of small birds that make a hissing sound when disturbed. Wrynecks live in Europe and Africa. They nest in the hollows of trees. When disturbed, the bird thrusts its head and neck out of the nest and hisses. The bird’s name comes from the twisting motion of its neck as it does so. The wryneck has brownish feathers marked with streaks and spots. The bird uses its long, slender tongue to reach into crevices for ants.
