Derby, << DUR bee or DAHR bee, >> is a stiff felt hat with a dome-shaped crown. The British usually call it a bowler. The name derby may come from England. The Earl of Derby, who established the Derby horse races in Epsom in 1780, often wore such hats. They were popular among men who attended the races.
