Goldenseal

Goldenseal is a perennial flowering plant of the Eastern United States. It is sometimes called orangeroot or turmeric. Commercial growers dry and grind the plant’s thick, yellow roots for medicinal use. The goldenseal’s showy, lobed leaves may be 8 inches (20 centimeters) wide. Its greenish-white flowers are 1/4 inch (6 millimeters) across. It bears red fruits in large clusters. In some states, the plant is endangered because of overcollecting and destruction of habitat.
