Park, David (1911-1960), was an influential American painter and art teacher. He was head of the art department at the Winsor School in Boston from 1936 to 1941. From the mid-1940’s until his death, Park taught at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and at the University of California. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, many American artists worked in an abstract style without recognizable subject matter. But Park insisted on working in the representational style. Park created powerful canvases based upon the human figure, developing a form of expressive realism that influenced many younger artists. Park was born in Boston.
