Roy, Maurice (1905-1985), a Canadian religious leader, was named a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in 1965 by Pope Paul VI. At the time of his elevation, Roy was archbishop of Quebec and primate of Canada.
Roy was born on Jan. 25, 1905, in Quebec City. He was ordained a priest in 1926. During World War II (1939-1945), he served overseas for five years as a chaplain in the Canadian Army. He died on Oct. 24, 1985.
