Tiselius, << tih SAY lee us, >> Arne (1902-1971), a Swedish physical chemist, perfected new methods for analyzing proteins. He developed an improved apparatus for separating mixtures of electrically charged molecules by making them move in an electric field. Tiselius showed that blood serum contains albumin and four other proteins. This discovery proved of great value in processing blood plasma during World War II. He won the 1948 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Tiselius was born in Stockholm, Sweden.
