Sevcik, Otakar

Sevcik, Otakar << SHEHF cheek, AW tah kahr >> (1852-1934), was a Czech violinist and an eminent teacher. His violin method is still widely used. He taught at the Imperial Russian Music Society in Kyiv for 17 years, and then went to the Conservatory in Prague. He moved to Vienna, Austria, in 1909, and finally came to the United States. His students included Jan Kubelik and Franz Ondricek. Sevcik was born in Horazd’ovice, near Strakonice, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic).
