Rose, Mauri

Rose, Mauri (1906-1981), an automobile racing driver, won the Memorial Day Indianapolis 500 race in 1947 and 1948. He shared first place in 1941 as the relief driver for Floyd Davis. Rose drove in the Indianapolis race each year from 1933 to 1951, except for from 1942 through 1945 when the race was canceled due to World War II. He was noted for his ability to pass other cars on turns. Rose retired after the 1951 race and became an experimental engineer. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 26, 1906. He died Jan. 1, 1981.
