Szigeti, Joseph

Szigeti << SIHG ih tee >>, Joseph (1892-1973), was a famous Hungarian-born violinist. He performed works by many leading modern composers, including the premiere of compositions by Ernest Bloch and Sergei Prokofiev. Szigeti was born in Budapest and studied with the violinist and composer Jeno Hubay. Szigeti became internationally famous as a child prodigy on the violin. He settled in the United States in 1926 and became a U.S. citizen in 1951.
