Goyen, << KOH ee yun, >> Jan Van (1596-1656), was a Dutch artist who specialized in painting landscapes. His paintings portrayed views of towns and hamlets near canals or rivers. His pictures have great depth and are full of interesting details. He was one of the first painters to stress the beauty of a large expanse of sky above a low horizon. Among his pictures is the View of Rhenen. Goyen was born in Leiden.
