Hopper, De Wolf (1858-1935), an American actor and singer, excelled in comedy roles. During the 1880’s, he performed with the noted McCaull Opera Company. Later, he headed his own company in revivals of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Some of his best roles included Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore, Ko-Ko in The Mikado, the Lord Chancellor in Iolanthe, and the jester in The Yeomen of the Guard. Hopper was born in New York City. His wife, Hedda Hopper, became a noted columnist.
