Hrdlicka, Ales

Hrdlicka, << HURD lihch kuh, >> Ales (1869-1943), an American physical anthropologist, gained fame for his studies of American Indians. He studied their migration routes from Asia to North America by examination of their skeletal remains. In 1903, he became associated with the United States National Museum, part of the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, D.C. He was curator of the museum from 1910 until his death. Hrdlicka was born in Humpolec, Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic).
