Mott, John Raleigh (1865-1955), was an international religious leader. He became secretary of the International Committee of the Young Men’s Christian Association in 1888. He served as chairman of the Student Volunteer Movement from 1888 to 1920, and later founded the World’s Student Christian Federation.
Mott traveled great distances in the interests of a worldwide Christian endeavor. He stimulated national student movements and brought countries and denominations together. A brilliant organizer and evangelist, he shared the 1946 Nobel Peace Prize, and received the Distinguished Service Medal for his work in World War I (1914-1918). Mott was born in Livingston Manor, New York.
