Borromeo, Saint Charles

Borromeo, << `bohr` roh MAY oh, >> Saint Charles (1538-1584), cardinal-archbishop of Milan, founded the Oblate Fathers, and was a leader of the Counter Reformation. He became a cardinal at 22. Borromeo played an important part in church government, and headed the commission of the Council of Trent that produced the Catechism. He was born on Oct. 2, 1538, in Arona, Italy. His feast day is November 4. He died on Nov. 3, 1584.
