Bosco, Saint John

Bosco, Saint John (1815-1888), an Italian priest, became famous for his devoted care of homeless boys. He organized the Society of St. Francis de Sales (Salesians) for missionary activity and work with boys, and the Daughters of Mary Auxiliatrix to care for girls. Bosco was a popular preacher and writer. He was canonized in 1934. Bosco was born near Turin.
