Boult, Sir Adrian

Boult, << `bohlt`, >> Sir Adrian (1889-1983), a British conductor, founded the British Broadcasting Corporation Symphony Orchestra, and directed it from 1930 to 1950. He also served as musical director of the BBC from 1930 to 1942. In 1950, he became conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Boult was born in Chester. He made his debut as a conductor in 1914 and achieved his first success as guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1919.
