Jensen << YEHN sihn >>, Johannes Vilhelm (1873-1950), a Danish author, won the 1944 Nobel Prize for literature. His masterpiece was the six-volume novel The Long Journey (1908-1921). This work describes the evolution of humanity from before the Ice Age to the time of Christopher Columbus.
Jensen won his first success in 1898 with Himmerland Stories, a collection of tales about country life. He called many of his stories “myths” because they symbolically expressed his philosophy of life.
Jensen was born on Jan. 20, 1873, in Farsø, near Års, Denmark. He died on Nov. 25, 1950.
