Wickersham, George Woodward

Wickersham, George Woodward (1858-1936), an American lawyer, served as attorney general from 1909 to 1913 in the Cabinet of President William Howard Taft. He was interested in constitutional reform in New York state, and in international arbitration. In later years, he served as chairman of the National Commission on Law Observance and Enforcement. This commission was created in 1929 by President Herbert Hoover to study the problem of enforcing the national prohibition laws. Wickersham was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He studied at Lehigh University.
