Wren, Percival Christopher

Wren, Percival Christopher (1875-1941), was a British novelist. Beau Geste (1924), as a novel, play, and motion picture, brought him international renown. Beau Geste is a romantic adventure story about life in the French Foreign Legion. Wren followed it with Beau Sabreur (1926), Beau Ideal (1928), The Good Gestes (1929), and Two Feet from Heaven (1940). However, he never quite repeated his first success.

Wren was born on Nov. 1, 1875, in Deptford, an area of London. He graduated from Oxford University, and then toured the world. His first novels dealt with India, where he held a government post for 10 years. Wren died on Nov. 22, 1941.
