Berthelot, Marcellin

Berthelot, Marcellin, << `behr` tuh LOH, `mar` suh LAN >> (1827-1907), was a French chemist. He showed that organic compounds could be made from carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen by purely chemical means. He worked out the theory of explosions.

Pierre Eugene Marcellin Berthelot was born on Oct. 27, 1827, in Paris. He died on March 18, 1907.
