Boyd Orr, Lord (1880-1971), a British nutrition and agricultural scientist, won the 1949 Nobel Peace Prize. He served as director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization from 1945 to 1948, and as president of the World Federalist Government movement in 1948. He was a food consultant to the British government in 1940. He was born on Sept. 23, 1880, in Ayrshire (now Strathclyde Region), Scotland. He died on June 25, 1971.
