Denis, Saint (A.D. 200’s), is the patron saint of France. He is sometimes called Saint Dionysius. Saint Gregory of Tours reported that Denis was sent to preach the gospel in Gaul during the reign of Emperor Decius (249-251). Denis became bishop of Paris and died a martyr. His feast day is October 9.
