Henry, Marguerite Breithaupt

Henry, Marguerite Breithaupt (1902-1997), an American author of children’s books, won the Newbery medal in 1949 for King of the Wind, a story about an Arabian horse. She became well known for her many books about horses. She often wrote stories about friendships between animals and children. Her works include Misty of Chincoteague (1947), Sea Star (1949), Born to Trot (1950), Brighty of Grand Canyon (1953), Black Gold (1957), and Stormy, Misty’s Foal (1963). Marguerite Henry was born in Milwaukee.
