Humphreys, << HUHM freez, >> David (1752-1818), served General George Washington as aide-de-camp (field secretary) during the Revolutionary War in America (1775-1783). His writings show a good understanding of military tactics. Historians find his battle descriptions valuable.

After the war, Humphreys negotiated trade treaties in Europe for the United States. He was appointed minister to Spain in 1796. Humphreys brought Merino sheep to Connecticut from Europe in 1802. He helped establish the state’s first important wool company in 1810. He was born in Ansonia (then Derby), Connecticut.
