Hunsaker, Jerome Clarke (1886-1984), was one of the pioneer aeronautical scientists in the United States. He set up the first formal course of instruction in aeronautics from 1912 to 1916 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then took charge of the aircraft program for the U.S. Navy, and designed the airship Shenandoah and the seaplane NC-4. In 1941, he became chairman of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and served for about 15 years. He was born in Creston, Iowa, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy.
