Kennedy, David Matthew (1905-1996), served as U.S. secretary of the treasury under President Richard M. Nixon from 1969 to 1971. Kennedy later held the positions of ambassador at large and United States representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Kennedy was born in Randolph, Utah. He graduated from Weber College, George Washington University, and Rutgers University. From 1930 to 1946, he worked for the Federal Reserve System. In 1946, he joined the Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago. Kennedy served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of that bank from 1959 to 1969.
