Pillsbury, John Sargent

Pillsbury, John Sargent (1827-1901), was a Minnesota industrialist and Republican politician. He was governor of Minnesota from 1876 to 1882. He was a state senator from 1863 to 1875. With family members, Pillsbury established the Pillsbury Mills in 1872. By the early 1900’s the mills were the world’s largest flour mills. Pillsbury was born in Sutton, New Hampshire, on July 29, 1827. He moved to Minnesota in 1855. Pillsbury died on Oct. 18, 1901.
