Veronica, Saint

Veronica, << vuh RON uh kuh, >> Saint, traditionally was one of the women of Jerusalem who followed Jesus Christ on his way to Calvary. Calvary is the spot where Jesus was crucified. Veronica is said to have offered Jesus her linen veil to wipe the sweat from his face. Some traditions hold that the imprint of his features remained on the cloth. Such a cloth is said to have been preserved in Rome and in other cities. Saint Veronica’s feast day is celebrated on July 12.
