Abbott, Lyman

Abbott, Lyman (1835-1922), an American Congregationalist preacher and editor, popularized the reconciliation of evolution with the Biblical account of creation. He served as a pastor in Terre Haute, Indiana, from 1860 until 1865. He then worked for the American Union Commission, engaged in Southern Reconstruction, until 1869. He served as editor of the Christian Union magazine (later The Outlook) from 1881 to 1922.

Abbott was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, on Dec.18, 1835. He died on Oct. 22, 1922.
