Dismas, Saint, is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church . The Bible tells us that two unnamed “bandits” or “criminals” were crucified beside Jesus Christ (Matthew 27:38,44; Mark 15:32; Luke 23:32, 39-43). In the Gospel of Luke, one criminal criticizes the other for mocking Jesus. He then asks Jesus to remember him when Jesus comes into his kingdom. Jesus replies, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” According to a much later tradition, the name of this “good thief” was Dismas and the name of the other criminal was Gestas. Dismas is honored as a saint, and his feast day is March 25.
