Frick, Ford (1894-1978), was national commissioner of baseball from 1951 to 1965. While he was commissioner, four teams were added to the major leagues. Ford Christopher Frick was born in Wawaka, Indiana, and graduated from DePauw University. He worked on newspapers in Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado, and in New York City. He made radio sports broadcasts from 1930 until 1934, when he became president of the National Baseball League. Frick helped popularize night baseball. He was named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970.
