In the Book of Daniel , Gabriel interprets visions for the Jewish hero Daniel (Daniel 8:15-27; 9:20-27). In the Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel reveals to Zechariah that he will father a son named John (Luke 1:11-20). Zechariah’s son later grows up to be the prophet John the Baptist . Gabriel also visits the Virgin Mary to tell her that she will conceive and give birth to Jesus (Luke 1:26-38).
