Halpern, Bernard Naftali (1904-1978), a French research biologist and physician, discovered and studied antihistamine drugs. He realized their value in the treatment of allergic diseases, and introduced them into French clinics. Halpern was born in Tarnoruda, Russia. He received his M.D. degree from the Faculte de Medecine in Paris in 1936. He directed the department of experimental medicine at the University Medial Clinic in Paris from 1945 to 1954, and was director of medical research of the French National Research Council from 1948 to 1960.
