Meyer, Albert Gregory

Meyer, Albert Gregory (1903-1965), was named a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in December 1959 by Pope John XXIII. Meyer was born in Milwaukee on March 9, 1903. He studied at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee and at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. Meyer was ordained a priest in 1926. In 1946, he was elevated to bishop of Superior, Wisconsin. Meyer became archbishop of Milwaukee in 1953. In 1958, he became archbishop of Chicago. Meyer died on April 9, 1965.
