Faldo, Nick

Faldo, Nick (1957-…), is a leading English professional golfer. Faldo has won six major tournament championships. He won the British Open in 1987, 1990, and 1992, and the Masters Tournament in 1989, 1990, and 1996. He lost the 1988 U.S. Open championship in a playoff to Curtis Strange. Faldo played for Europe on 11 straight Ryder Cup teams from 1979 to 1989 and was captain of the European team in 2008 (see Ryder Cup ).

Nicholas Alexander Faldo was born on July 18, 1957, in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, England. He began playing golf as an amateur at the age of 14 and joined the European Professional Golfers’ Association in 1976. Faldo became a golf analyst on American television in 2006. He was knighted in 2009 for his services to golf. Faldo retired as a player in 2013 but resumed tournament play on a limited basis in 2017.
