Frazier, Walt (1945-…), ranks among the greatest guards in basketball history. Frazier was especially known for his smooth style of play, skillful ball handling, and defensive skills. He was nicknamed “Clyde the Glide.” Frazier helped lead the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to championships in the 1969-1970 and 1972-1973 seasons.
Walter Frazier, Jr., was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He played at Southern Illinois University, leading his team to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) championship his senior year in 1967. Frazier was selected by New York in the first round of the 1967 NBA draft and played with the Knicks through the 1976-1977 season. He then played with the Cleveland Cavaliers until he retired in 1980. For his career, Frazier averaged 18.9 points and 6.1 assists a game. He was named to the NBA all-defensive first team seven consecutive seasons, beginning in 1969. He was elected to the basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. After his retirement, Frazier became a broadcaster for Knicks games.
