Greer, Hal (1936-2018), became one of the highest scoring guards in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Greer scored a team record 21,586 points during his 15-year career with the Syracuse Nationals (later Philadelphia 76ers) of the NBA. Greer stood 6 feet 2 inches (188 centimeters) tall. He was especially known for his quickness, his deft jump shot, and his accurate free-throw shooting.
Harold Everett Greer was born in Huntington, West Virginia on June 26, 1936. He starred in basketball at Marshall University, graduating in 1958. He was drafted by Syracuse in the 1958 NBA draft and remained with the franchise when it moved to Philadelphia in 1963. Greer played on the 76er team that won the NBA championship in 1967. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982. Greer died on April 14, 2018.
