Robinson, David (1965-…), was a star center in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Robinson became known for his high scoring and his agility. He stands 7 feet 1 inch (216 centimeters) tall. Robinson was also a strong rebounder and shot blocker.

David Maurice Robinson was born on Aug. 6, 1965, in Key West, Florida. He was an All-America player while attending the United States Naval Academy from 1983 to 1987. Robinson was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 1987 and joined the team in 1989 after two years of military service in the U.S. Navy. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year for the 1989-1990 season. Robinson was also named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 1991-1992 season and the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 1994-1995 season. He played on the U.S. Olympic basketball teams that won gold medals in 1992 and 1996. Robinson retired in 2003. In 2009, he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Robinson is known for his charity work. He founded the Carver Academy in San Antonio, a tuition-free charter school.
