Bloody Assizes (1685) was the name given to the court sessions in which people accused of taking part in Monmouth’s Rebellion in England were tried. George Jeffreys, the lord chief justice, and four other judges presided over the sessions. Many of the rebels were sentenced to death or banishment, including the rebellion’s leader, the Duke of Monmouth.
