Brown snake

Brown snake is one of Australia’s most dangerous snakes because of its extremely potent venom. Fortunately, it has relatively small fangs and venom glands, and its victims have a fair chance of recovery.

The common brown snake lives in eastern Australia. Most common brown snakes are about 5 feet (1.5 meters) in length, but some grow to more than 7 feet (2 meters). They vary in color from light gray or brown to almost black above. Their bellies are cream or yellow, with distinctive orange spots or blotches. They feed on lizards and small mammals.
